7 Registry Tweaks or Tricks to Enhance the Performance of Windows XP

Increase The Performance Of Windows With Registry.

1.) Reduce the System Shutdown Time

When you click on Turn Off button, a message is sent to all programs running on your XP system to shutdown. The default time to allow applications to shutdown is 20 seconds. To reduce this time to say 5 seconds, in the Registry Editor navigate to the following registry key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop

Here, double-click on the value “WaitToKillAppTime” and change its default value 20000 to 5000 and select the OK button.

2.) Faster Menus

To improve the responsiveness of the drop-down menus, go to the following key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Control Panel/Desktop

Here, double-click on the value “MenuShowDelay” and change its value data to “0”.

3.) Disable CD AutoPlay

To prevent your CDs from playing automatically when you insert them in the CD-drive, navigate to the following location in the registry editor:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdrom

Here, double-click on the value “Autorun” and change its value data to 0.

4.)  Reduce the Time for Windows Reporting an Application as Not Responding

To reduce the reporting time for Not Responding programs, open the following registry key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop

Here, double-click on the string value “HungAppTimeout” and change the default value from 5000 milliseconds (5 seconds) to a smaller value say 1000 (1 second).

5.) Disable startup programs

Programs that load during system startup unnecessarily uses a lot of system resources and slow down your computer. To disable these startup applications or programs, first open each of the following keys listed below one-by-one.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunOnce

Go through the list of programs that added here and remove the programs that you don’t want to load at startup of the window.

6.) Hide Desktop Icons

To ensure that your beautiful wallpaper is not speckled by icons, navigate to the following key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

Right-click on the right pane, select Binary Value and name it as “NoDesktop” and change its value data to 01 00 00 00.

Registry tweaks or tricks can help you customize your XP computer and even increase the performance of your system. While working within the registry, you must also keep in mind that registry cleaning is also very important in order to maintain an error-free, healthy system. You can clean and remove registry errors with the help of registry cleaner tools and ensure yourself a healthy registry and enhanced system performance.

7.) Reduce the waiting time for Chkdsk to check your drive at system startup

To reduce the time for Chkdsk to check your drive at startup, navigate to the following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager

10 Tricks With A USB Thumb Drive

USB Drive Tricks
Any ordinary USB memory device can do a lot more than you probably thought it could. It can carry programs, encryption and even a full installation of Windows XP! Here is our tenlist for the coolest things you can do with a USB thumb drive:
1) Take your programs with you
We all know how frustrating it is when we take your files to another computer just to discover that the software required to read the files is not installed.
Here’s the simplest solution – take your programs with you – on your USB thumb drive. Here’s how to do it with Portable Apps:
1. Go to the Portable Apps website and download the installer, choosing the software you want to carry along.
2. Run the installer and install the software to the root of your USB thumb drive.
And you’re done! As soon as you connect your thumb drive into a computer, Portable Apps will open up automatically.
2) Surf anonymously
With Portable Apps and Firefox, you can surf the web without leaving any trace on the computer you are using. If you want extra security, install a Firefox security plugin such as FoxyProxy. To iput Firefox onto the drive, just copy-paste the Firefox folder from you computer, or install Firefox onto the thumb drive.
3) Set a program to run automatically (autorun)
Using autorun, you can set a program to start up automatically when you connect the drive to a computer. You can also use the same script for a data CD-ROM. Note that some computers have autorun disabled for security purposes. [Here's how to disable autorun.]
Open up notepad and paste the following script:
[autorun]
ShellExecute=filename
Label=description
UseAutoPlay=1
Make sure you replace filename with the full path to the file. For example, a file called program.exe in a folder called “programs” on the thumb drive would be /programs/program.exe
Replace description with a short description of the program, for example, My Jukebox or Mozilla Firefox.
Save the file as autorun.inf, making sure you select “All Programs” from the save menu, not “Text document”!
4) Help! I’m lost!
Ever lost a USB drive? Even if you haven’t, there’s a pretty good chance you’ll lose a few during your life. And with all the important information on it, it could be a disaster to have it fall into someone’s hands.
A good idea is to encrypt all the information on the drive, but you would still want it back, wouldn’t you? Luckily, the folks at the Daily Cup Of Tech have come up with a solution.

Save a program called “Help! I’m Lost!” on the drive, that a finder just can’t get around opening. The program opens a message box with your personal “I’m lost” message. It’s a good idea to offer the finder a bigger reward than the drive itself, so that they’ll be interested in contacting you.
5) Hide the drive inside something
Why not surprise your friends and co-workers by sticking something that looks like a broken USB cable into the computer’s USB drive?

You’ll be sure to get a few shocked faces when you start to play a movie from it.
The guys from Technobuzz.net show us how to do it. (You are gonna need an unbelievably small thumb drive for this…)
6) Secure your PC
Just like with an RFID badge, you can use a USB drive to lock and unlock a PC. Insert it to begin working and pull it out when you’ve finished, locking the computer. There are several programs for this . Rohos, a commercial program and WiKID, a semi-open source one.
If you really need to secure your computer with a USB drive, I suggest you give Rohos a try, as WiKID is rather complicated.
7) Portable jukebox
Don’t just carry the music with you, also carry the player! You can install audio programs such asWinAmp and CoolPlayer+ on your thumb drive. Just unextract the ZIP folders to the USB drive.
If you want the jukebox to start up automatically when you connect the memory stick to the computer, use the autorun feature shown tip 3 and point it to the exe of your audio player.
8) Encrypt your data
If you carry any sensitive indormation on your USB memory stick, a good idea is to encrypt it. Hardware-level encryption will help, but it will cost extra. You can get a free program to encrypt your data just as securely. For this I recommend TrueCrypt, but most others will also do.
You will need admin access on the computer you want to use your encrypted thumb drive on, so this it’s usability a little.
9) Run a standalone OS for dedicated tasks
The easiest OS to boot from a USB drive is probably Linux. There are many small capacity Linux versions out there that will fit on your drive. The best 3 are Puppy Linux, Damn Small Linux andWebconverger.
Make sure you select a version that needs less space than your USB drive’s maximum, so you have room for files and software.
And this leads us nicely to the final tip…
10) Run Windows itself from a USB thumb drive
Modifying Windows to work on a USB drive is quite difficult, but luckily there are some tools that will do it for us. Note that you will need a separate Windows license for this, as Microsoft only lets you use one for each single computer, and a USB drive is treated by them like a computer…
What you’ll need:
  1. A licensed copy of Windows
  2. A USB device, min. 1GB (We recommend a USB hard disk, as a flash memory stick will become unusable after 100000 writing processes. Assuming that only 2 processes are used per second, the drive will last only 60 days with 8 hours of work each day… A hard disk doesn’t have this problem.)

5 Reasons- Why Your Blog is Not Making Money ?

5 Reasons why your Blog is Not Making Money

Earning lots of Money while Blogging is like a dream for almost all bloggers but very few blogs are able to achieve this and majority of blogs can’t generate decent amount in revenues despite of using all kind of traffic monetizing programs like Affiliate Marketing, Adsense etc. In this article I would be sharing tips which would help you to get the answer of questions like “Why your Blog is not making any money” or “Whether this blog is going to generate any revenues in future or not”.

1. Not Having the Right Audience:- I am not talking about the quantity of traffic but the quality of traffic. Have you ever thought about from what stage of buying cycle your traffic is coming from? You need to find out whether your blog attracts traffic which is looking for information after buying a product or it attracts traffic which looking for information about a new product and planning to buy it. For e.g.:- A blog which contains more information and reviews related to new products of its niche would attract more traffic with intention to buy as compared to the blog of similar niche which contains only informational contain. So, the first blog would definitely make more money as compared to latter.

2. Not having the Right Content: - This is a follow-up point. You have to make a proper balance between content with commercial intention and content mainly with informational intention. For e.g.:- Nobody would ever go to Wikipedia with intention of buying a product, Wikipedia only gets traffic which is looking for information.

3. Not Concentrating in Single Niche:- Blog which covers a wide range of topics instead of focusing in one niche have low probability to influence buyers or to convince them to buy product they are recommending as compared to blog which is completely dedicated to that niche. For e.g.: If I have to buy a monitor, I will give more preference to reviews in Pcworld as compared to reviews on other websites, because I know that Pcworld has highest authority when it come to computer products. In short, always write about things you really know about and try to become authority in one niche instead of becoming jack of all trades.

4. Not helping readers:- Your blog is not helping readers in solving their problems and making their lives better. Before thinking of making any money from your blog, you need to ask What Problem Your Blog Solve and you would have a clear idea why it is not making money. To make real money, you need to solve real problems. Nobody would going to buy from your sponsors unless you can convince them how that product would be making their life much easier.

5. Not having anything Unique:- Your blog is similar to thousands of other blogs in the same niche. You don’t have anything new to say or for adding to the community. Now, you must be thinking that what unique content about a topic you can share with your readers when thousands of people have already written about it. But you need to believe that each  person has its own unique style. Try to tell things in your own style which nobody else has so that you can easily standout from the rest.

To conclude, earning a decent amount from blog so that you can quit your full time job is not an easy task and it would take years of hard work to reach at that point. Always keep money as secondary goal and helping your readers as top most priority. Be Honest with your opinions and don’t be a kind of blogger who is going to tell his readers how to make money online by completing surveys because nobody is interested in that. At the end, I would like to know about your opinions so feel free to share them in comments.
